Cloud-Native E-Commerce Platform

Automated deployment and infrastructure on Azure.

In this case study

Overview

A high-performance cloud-native e-commerce solution. Cut deployment time by 60% and automated 100% of releases by provisioning cloud infrastructure with Terraform on Azure and building end-to-end CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and Docker.

Results

  • 100% automated releases: zero manual steps to production.
  • 60% faster deployment cycle for every change.
  • An infrastructure described in code that can be rebuilt on demand.

Key features

  • 60% Faster Deployment
  • 100% Automated Releases
  • Infrastructure as Code
  • Scalable Microservices

Architecture

Containerized services on Azure, provisioned entirely with Terraform so every environment is reproducible from code. GitHub Actions builds, tests and ships Docker images end to end, with no manual deploys exist in the path to production.

Engineering decisions

The main choices behind the implementation.

  1. Terraform over console provisioning: infrastructure that survives review and rollback.
  2. GitHub Actions as the single release path: green pipeline equals release.
  3. Docker as the runtime boundary: identical behavior from laptop to cloud.

Challenges

Making releases boring. The pipeline had to be fast enough that shipping never became an event. This required early optimization of build caching and deployment steps, landing at 60% faster deployments.
