BloodFlow Manager

REST API for donor data and blood stock management

In this case study

Overview

A robust RESTful API system for managing blood bank operations, including donor registration, blood stock tracking, and inventory management with real-time updates.

Results

  • Donor registration, stock tracking and real-time inventory from one coherent API.
  • A model that bends to new requirements without breaking old clients.

Key features

  • Donor Management
  • Stock Tracking
  • Real-time Updates
  • RESTful API

Architecture

NestJS modular architecture: donors, stock and inventory as independent modules sharing one MongoDB persistence layer. Every mutation exposes a typed REST contract so any client can stay consistent with the data model.

Engineering decisions

The main choices behind the implementation.

  1. NestJS module boundaries: one responsibility per module, enforced by structure.
  2. MongoDB for flexible donor records: schema evolves alongside requirements.
  3. Typed REST contract up front: stock counts are only ever displayed from the same source of truth.

Challenges

Keeping blood-stock data trustworthy across concurrent requests: solved with a single authoritative write path per resource.
